of long weekends… and movies.

Another cup of coffee has been consumed. It’s deliciously bitter and sensuously sweet and warm. I thank Lavazza with all my heart and whatever soul has not been corrupted yet by coffee and cigarettes.

Gold Flake is expensive again. Rs 88/- for a pack of twenty! It is UNFAIR. The prices of Classics this and that are the same! So, now, if anyone asks me for a smoke and makes a face at the Gold Flake cigarette I can offer, and pouts and says, “Why don’t you smoke Classics? It’s a better cigarette!” will not hear my usual scoff followed by,”To each his own” but will get one deathly stare. I do NOT take responsibility for zapping people inadvertently.

A good way to remove little Z’s from the floor are by using Colin and Dettol together. It works! Why do you think I am not forced to wear shades to protect human beings with below average intelligence? Mwahaaahahaahaa!

I have seen a LOT of movies over the weekend. A lot. Quick Reviews are always good eh? Here goes…

1. X Men Origins: Wolverine. Well, well, well… watch it! It’s a lot of fun. There’s the whole “Where did Wolverine come from?” question that is answered. There are some insanely edited action sequences. There is action, blood, guns, swords, scientific experiments, super-powers, love, loss, drama and hot people. Girls, Hugh Jackman’s ass is beautiful.

2. Underworld: Rise of the Lycans. I am a sucker for swords and guns and gravity defying stunts. Also, these prequels are fun. The story line is always well worked out. The people look even better than they did in the original movie, and the fighting… oooh the fighting! I like! Watch it if you like wolves and vampires and werewolves.

3. Gulaal. I saw it at home, I’ve seen it in the theatres already. Well… what do I say about this movie? I love Anurag Kashyap. I love every actor in the movie. I couldn’t stop staring at the screen. The music and lyrics and “ardh nareshwar ki aulaad” are brilliant theatrical/cinematic elements. The female characters pitted against each other as foils of one another is an excellent idea. Every movie fanatic should see this film. Oh in some ways it is “tighter” than Dev D (and I LOVED Dev D). Watch it!

4. The Spirit. This one is based on the Marvel comics’ creation: The Spirit. Errr… it has Samuel L Jackson, Eva Mendes, Scarlett Johanssen(!) and it is still not engaging enough. It just doesn’t do it for me. Sure, the effects, the characterisation, the dark humour etc are all there and all fun and glorious… but the script is not as effective… the editing is good but not good enough… the scene transition is just… there. Ok, let me put it this way… it got boring despite everything it had going for it.

5. 8X10 Tasveer. Heehee! Nagesh Kukunoor?! Why!? Ohkay. The mother and brother were watching this movie. I joined in even later than halfway through the movie, saw 15 minutes of it, got annoyed, spelled out the plot for me Maa and brother. Then, I couldn’t stay put so I went and made toast and coffee. When I came back, all the things I had figured out were happening on screen just the way I had said they would. GAH!

6. Fast and Furious 4. It has everything the title promises. Vin Diesel and Paul Walker are back, with their exceptionally hot better halves. There is more of everything the first one offered. It’s fun. It’s wokay.

7. The International. It’s different but not completely. It’s set in New York and cities across Europe! It has Clive Owen who has something very weird and difficult to point out going for him. It also has Naomi Watts who is quite a hottie! There is espionage, moneys, guns, killings… some intelligent conversations and deals… Once you’ve seen it all, you shrug it off… if you know what I mean… Please do watch it if you’ve been planning to cause of the trailers. It’s not disappointing… But then I saw it mostly for the popcorn. Hehe!

Wow! Phew.

Time for some more coffee plunging. Why do they call it “Coffee Plunger”? Why?

Oh, also, can’t I marry Neil Gaiman? He could tell me stories all the time… the kind I lu-h-uv! Please Neil! Please…
