Also, this is written in a leeetul bit of a rush! Ignore typos… hope the review helps…

UPDATED to add: Spaghetti Kitchen has a liquor license. Finally!

Situated in one of the new-er malls in the city, Select City Walk, Saket, Spaghetti Kitchen is quite spectacular. The gold, the bronze, the chandeliers, the pale gold and cream… it screams fine dining and elegance. You have obviously read and heard a lot about this place. The food is supposed to be simply amazing. Well, Mr Marchetti won’t open his first kitchen in the capital and disappoint… right? So, you dress up (office formals!) and go to the restaurant with him, all set for a scrumptious italian meal. Did I mention I am a sucker for italian food… he is too. I make this amazing penne in chicken and mushrooms white sauce… more about that later. Back to the Spaghetti Kitchen…

We entered a beautiful fine dining restaurant and were escorted to our table (in the smoking section of course). The lighting, the ambience, the hues of pale gold and cream made me smile. What made me wrinkle my royal nose is displeasure what the very sad looking antipasti buffet. Very sad. No, it wasn’t the quantity or the variety that disappointed. It was the quality. The hams had dried up, the salad was shrivelled… the cheeses looked butchered (maybe not the restaurant’s fault). All in all, the buffet had not been replenished or beautified since dinner service started. Moving on the menu handed to us… A suggestion to the restaurant – invest in some nicely designed and printed menus. Computer printouts with plastic sheets to keep them clean is really not upmarket anymore… but then was it ever?

Let’s move on to the food – the most vital component of an evening out for two foodies. The food does not disappoint. At all. The appetizer I ordered to share was the shredded beef tenderloin with rocket leaves, olives and herbs, and it was exquisite. I loved it. He didn’t, as it wasn’t fried (haha!) but smoked. So I devoured most of it. We then ordered a pasta, a fussili in white wine and cream sauce, and a grilled chicken breast with mild italian herbs. The main course could be referred to as comfort food cooked lovingly and with a lot of care. The variety of flavours complemented each other beautifully. The pasta was cooked al-dente and the chicken was deliciously soft. The only problem we faced at the restaurant was the hurry the waitors seemed to be in despite the half empty restaurant on a week night.

While I tried to savour the appetizer, the main course was dumped on my plate by the waitors with such ferocity I was rendered speechless. I tried to give the chicken a try and enjoy my dinner. But to no avail, the pasta was added to my plate without any warning. He was irritated beyond belief and I was too shocked to fight or be rude to the people serving the food. All in all, if you aren’t used to finishing a meal in under 30 minutes, especially if you’ve paid Rs 2500 for it, then try and avoid this place… Also the lack of a liquor license upsets me. Gravely. Also, I don’t like restaurants that cannot iron their linen properly or get their walls and ceilings re-painted or buffed especially if the patchy-ness is right above my head!

I give it a rating of 2
Ambience – 1 (They don’t even iron the runners on the table properly!)
Food – 3 (If they would have let me eat in peace I might have been a little more generous)
Drinks - N/A (!!!)
Service - .5 (They only heard us when their manager was around, and that too to hurry us through the meal)
Spend – 1250+ per head

I believe most food critics get the meal for free / a discount, you know!

@Perakath: Well, all the free meals I’ve had as a food critic (hah!) have been fantastic – they serve you the best dishes, and they acually serve you! Service is fabulous for food critics… its the normal customer’s review that will tell you if the food and service were up to the mark :)

agree wit sirop .. cuz wen u go as a customer then only there can be an unbiased review .. not review for a reviewer’s sake :)

its the restaurants which treat every customer like a reviewer .. they re the ones which deserve a pat on the back .. its the hospitality business after all..

And they didn’t even fill up the water glasses regularly nor clear the ashtrays.. the staff had to be coaxed into doing it for us…

The staff only cares bout carrying the food from the kitchen and dumping it on your table.. everything else is ignored.. and oh I HATE being rushed through my meal.. chheh.. thats the worst thing a fine dining restaurant can do to you..

Actually there is one thing worse.. have the paint peeling off the ceiling right over your head.. !!!
