Purple
23 July 2008Paint one wall purple! Or should I paint the ceiling…? The colour of April storms… do you remember? The amethyst sky, the silver lightning, the stars that were obscure for the clouds were hiding them from us. Do you remember the wind? The crazy wind. Unexpected April storms, brought on by you? or me? or them? The nights when the cosmos conspired with me, for me, for us…
Should I just go buy more purple. Lamps? Towels? Bed spreads? I need some purple. We need some purple, you and I? Royalty. Not really. I am and always will be a princess. I don’t need the colour for my princess-ness. I need it for some sanity. Lavender candles and Elizabeth Arden’s Provocative. It’s your favourite perfume on me. Or is it just mine. Must be me. You seem to like the way I smell…
Purple pens and purple font. I write you a letter in purple. I urge myself to calm down. Stop. Stop seeing red or green. Stop feeling the blues. Give up the blacks and whites for a little while… Just breathe you in and keep you with me… Grays… Should I give them up too? I can hold on to them for you… hang on to some pretty blues too, only if they make me smile. But would you colour me purple if I asked you to? Drench me in all of you for the entire day… Would you?
Here, take my hand… here, take my smile… hold me and let me breathe. Tell me stupid jokes and we’ll laugh together. Make me watch brilliant cinema and we’ll feel and gasp and weep together. I’ll teach you how to make pasta in white sauce and put lots of extra cheese in it. I’ll slurp up the wine and give you your scotch… I’ll read and you can catch up on your sleep… Wake me up with tea and toast and I’ll let you eat your cheese omelette in peace… Tea…… in the pretty purple cup…
Thank you
Thank you

If I could copy all of it and just replace purple with pink, I’d be talking about me.
Nice blog! Am blogrolling you.
Elizabeth Arden Provocative Woman… was my favorite too. An absolute favorite.
And suddenly I realised I was using too much of it. It was getting over too fast. So I decided to keep it away for a while in one of my drawers full of packed unused perfumes. Till one day, I discovered that my cupboard smelt nice. The bottle had leaked in there. And my favorite perfume died a silent death.
lovely lovely writing!
As long as purple is not black, I have no claim on it

Think you can find a way to doggiebag those feelings, so that you can carry them with you out of your room?
You labelled this as “poetry?”
Of course it is. I get back to blogosphere after a while and get rewarded with a purple poem. Pow wow
